A straight or angled flush mount rod holder the procedure is the same.
Use the base of the rod holder to draw a circle. (It is a good idea to make a template from card)
Cut out the circle. You can use the drill bit, jig or hole saw, or a dremel® tool or a jig saw.
After the hole is cut make sure that the rod holder fits through the hole. If its too small widen it. Then using sand paper smooth off the rough parts.
Place the rod holder in the hole and drill the screw holes. The size bit you use will be determined by what you decide to use to mount the rod holder. You can use various sized screws, wellnuts, rivets or bolts and nuts. Its not load bearing so I use screws which are the simplest.
Remove the rod holder and liberally apply silicone caulk (not needed if it comes with a gasket). Now place the rod holder in the hole and screw it tight. Silicone will ooze from the sides. This is expected. If it doesn't ooze out the sides you didn't use enough. You can lift up the rod holder and apply more. Its fine to have too much. You want to make sure that you don't have too little, otherwise it could leak.
Allow the silicone to dry. Give it at least a day and then trace around the outside of the rod holder base with a knife and pull off the excess silicone.
Please Note :The rod holder may not be water tight and seepage might occur in surf conditions.
